I accept this gift, especially knowing that God is ahead of me, Jesus is beside me and the Holy Spirit is within me. This is perfect, I think, for the start of a fresh new year:
“You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or
exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the
possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and
to embrace them with courage, faith and hope.”
~ Thomas Merton
My calendar is open to a future to tend (myself and others), to attend (show up) and to intend (design, plan and proceed). I want to care deeply for myself, my family and
my friends. I hope to live fully, engaging and rejoicing in all that the year holds, good and bad. And it’s my prayer to glorify God in the
ways I purpose today, tomorrow and every day.
My one word for this year is LIGHT.
The dictionary explains light as energy that makes it possible to see;
a source or lamp; the act of igniting or shining; something bright or cheerful; weighing little; and something easily endurable.
The Bible reveals God is the Light of the world light (John 8:12), and His radiance is like the sunlight (Habakkuk 3:4). God’s light beautiful and it shines the way (Psalm 119:105).
Light invades darkness, and it illuminates truth. It makes things in my life clearer. I invite it. A flicker of light catches my curiosity and fuels the flame of inquiry, learning and growth.
So this is my wish for the year ahead:
~ an even closer walk with God, the Light and wellspring of my life
~ warm rays of genuineness, intimacy and trust with those close to me
~ a lighter load (emotionally and physically)
~ lightning bolts of bravery to keep stepping beyond my borders and coloring outside the lines
~ the Holy Spirit’s spotlight to further convict me of my tendency to self-indulge and self-protect
~ light to help clear the path of excesses that take up my time and tie me down
Dear Good and Gracious God,
Thank you for beauty and laughter.
For newness and opportunity and wonder.
Invite me to dare to ask for the impossible this year -- to believe afresh the promise of restoration and peace for the suffering.
Fill me with your confidence every morning and your rest every night. Lead me. Teach me. Send me. Protect me.
As you will it, my story continues.
Allow me to embrace every light-filled moment.
“People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle
and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness
sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is
a light from within.” ~ Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
“At times our own light goes out and is rekindled
by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause
to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted
the flame within us.” ~ Albert Schweitzer
